Price going up on Used boats means more buyers are opting for used, and not buying New boats.

That is not a sign of a good economy.

We'll have to get an answer from Jim at BAWS... For example... I would never buy a new boat even if I had the money...unless I lived in a state that I approved of the government. I live in illinois and the $700 I paid in tax in 2010 - I feel i flushed down the toilet.

I saw a gorgeous 2100 PS 197 for $71K so tax on that would be about $7,000.... the thought of giving that to the state of Illinois and Governor Quinn would just kill me.

Would love to know if there's any rebound for new MC sales...

It is both.

Credit is tight, jobs are thin. So folks will not or cannot get credit to buy New. So they pay cash for Used, which can cause Used boat prices to rise.

In a good or strong economy, purchasing power would keep up with New boat prices, New boat sales are down due to these and other factors.
And yes, excessive TAXes are also a deterrent to new vehicle sales.

Layoffs and short work weeks have been implemented at several boat manufacturers over the last couple of years.

We should start a new thread on this...I wonder if the Boat Dealers are seeing any uptick in sales....I am just in a different demographic.... A new X-star at list cost more than my house cost to build in 1995.

Yes, I know the boat manufacturing industry got clobbered in the recession... In 2010, used boat prices were dropping... I know there's a lag in recovery in many markets...and jobs are still thin...but I am with you on the cost of new MC's (there was a thread about this) -

I just am wondering if the manufacturer's are seeing anything better.

Part of the reason is that home prices have fallen off a cliff, which is why your house is less than a new boat, but many consummer goods have continued to rise in price? cars and boats especially.

I would like to hear WHY my boat dealer is always parroting that boat prices are going "up" another 3-8% every Year ??

How and why. Especially when everyone knows new boat sales are down for the last 4yrs?
