Input on Forearm Tendon Injury

I will try to keep this as short as possible. Well my dream finally came true this past winter and we got a place on a lake. On May 12 the lake was about right to do my first slalom ski run and my neighbor, whom I met as a reference from the people that sold us the place, asked if we could use his boat. He picked me up and I was first to go. (I have only skied with my wife driving my X9). He asked, "How does your wife pull you?" I didn't have an answer and she was at work. Keep in mind I am not an average sized slalom skier at 6'1" 235 but I love it and do OK. I answered "I think she just hits it all the way." Well he has a much smaller and lighter boat (19' Moomba) and when he hit it I tried to hold on and get up but it ripped the handle out of my hands violently. I didn't notice I was injured and he kept trying for about 5 times to get me up. Then about 6 hours later the pain came.

I let it rest for a week and bought those gloves with the dowells in them thinking it would help and grabbed my wife and my boat the following Saturday. Too late, the damage is done and I still couldn't get up. Take a look at my forearm photo with bruising.

Guys, I know I can't be the only guy this has happend to so how long is it going to take to heal something like this and what type of therapy should I be doing. It is making me sick that I can't ski right now. I am looking forward to the input.

Haven't had an injury just like yours, but I developed golfers elbow last year and it seemed to take forever to heal up fully. I want to say it took me longer than 4 weeks to feel a bit better and longer than that to fully heal.
I'm thinking your gonna be hurting a while.

I would let it heal.....then in a few weeks...... try coming up a bit slower, not full power.

If that does not work, go to a larger ski.

Tendons take extremely long to heal as there is no blood supply. Take that forearm to your doctor and get a professional opinion. I partially tore the tendon in my right elbow (sounded kink of like velcro coming apart) and it took way too long to heal.

I tore up my elbow skiing one year and skied through it. It hurt like a SOB but I was skiing great. After the season it took me right at 9 months to heal.


My advice would be to stop skiing until it quits hurting and then try again.

just out of curiosity are you starting single ski or starting double and kicking one?
I'm also a bigger guy and when deep water starting on one ski it can be "fun" to get up. You may want to think about rigging up a kick ski, way easier to get out of the water.

Thanks for all the posts guys. I appreciate it.

Since I got my MasterCraft a few years ago, I have always deep water started with 1 ski. Last year I went from a comp-free ride to the HO Coefficient X. In this transition I also switched to double boots last season too. I wonder if I should put my toe plate back on and try that after I feel better.

I like the idea of using a kick ski too, it has been so long and had not thought about that. That would be a good way to get back on the water sooner.

I'm 6'3 and 250lbs. Come up in double boots. Size is not the issue. The different pull that wasn't expected is the culprit. And not letting go. My 2 cents is go see the doc! I am currently recovering from rotator cuff repair and it sucks. Don't put it off. I did and now my season is shot.

Go see your MD to get an opinion that has some substance. The bruising would seem to indicate that you have some torn muscles or tendons. If nothing is damaged too bad some physical therapy can really speed the healing time and get you back on the water quicker.
