Engine ID help... pictures included
I have searched high and low on the internet with little success in regards to what engine I have. It came with an 83 S&S I purchased out of California back in January. I don't know anything about it other than the guy said it was a fresh rebuild. I can tell that the gaskets, hoses, and freeze plugs are new, so it has definitely been disassembled. I don't, however, have any idea what is on the inside as far as the bearings, rings, etc. I can say everything the seller told me about the S&S has been spot on. I've put several hours on it this summer, and it has performed great.
I'm thinking the engine is probably an early 60s model. The numbers are as follows: front of engine- Interceptor NO GT21R523109 intake manifold- 1001250-1 distributor- Mallory model YL 445B 6062 carb- Holley 2 barrel 3850712 80382-2 0476 In the box that came with the engine was a new starter and new plug wires. It also included a Velvet Drive transmission model AS1-70C. ratio 1:1 serial 7047 Last edited by xstarplease; 07-22-2009 at 02:50 PM. |

Do a Yahoo search, "Ford Interceptor Marine Engines" and someone can help with the serial number.

You may want to log into the below, get an account, etc, etc.
Then post your info there. http://www.marineengine.com/discus/m...13/12513.shtml Looks like some very knowledgeable people lurk there. Beautiful engine. Good Luck

Its either a Ford 270, 289 or 302 (the blocks share the same external dimensions, their different displacement are due to variations in bore and stroke). Obviously its an Interceptor marinization (Ive been told Interceptor was originally Ford's marine division), and judging by the block off plate in place of the circ pump, I would guess mid 60's vintage. There were a lot of Interceptors put into Correct Crafts in the mid to late 60's. Yours has a very strange looking oil pan and RWP mount- I havent seen another one quite like it. With a 2bbl, I would guess that the engine was rated somewhere around 165hp.

I thought the Interceptor was originally for police cars.
