Plenty of miles on my Marathons with out issue. Mine are newer ('08) and on a single axle trailer. What was trailer in OP? I don't think I have heard of any issues with newer marathon's on sa trailers.

I've never had a problem with any of my Marathons and I've had them on the trailers of the last three boats over the past 10 years at least and probably longer. My current boat is an 07 so I'm planing to replace them for next season. I'm leaning towards the Kumos due to the D rating and all the stories I've read here and elsewhere about tire separation.

One would think this would be effecting sales and thus a concern or action from Goodyear. Do you think the complaints are too isolated and not worth the concern? Also if these tires are so bad MasterCraft and other trailer manufactures must be aware of this issue. One would think they would move to another vendor if this was the case.

I COMPLETELY agree with this. We had a Carlisle tire on an enclosed trailer come apart on the way home from Bike Week this year right before an exit - we pulled off and the other tire on the same side was bulging under the tread like there was an egg under it. My buddy bought two tires and we made it home without incident. The tires had pretty low mileage on them but were about 4.5 years old. I borrowed the trailer from him a couple of weeks later and had a blowout on the other side of the trailer - one of the original Carlisle tires - needless to say, I bought new tires for that side of the trailer and the spare. I have had great luck with Marathons until they get to be a few years old - trailer stored indoors and not a substantial amount of miles on them. If I ever need to take a highway trip with my trailer again, I will definitely be buying 5 new tires for it.

Borrowed time after 4 years was what got me looking to replace mine. At some point, they are going to go and that point will probably before the tread wears away.

To me, this forum is about love of inboard boats. It is about the sharing of information and, on a good day, some humor. It is not about post count, brand of boat, or any other superfluous labels that lend themselves to a false sense of superiority. Please, respect one another, try to pass on accurate information, and keep your eye on the ball.

The 2nd of 3 separated/blown Marathons on my buddy's 06 trailer this year happened to take place next to a Goodyear tire shop.
In the interst of getting on the road, took the blown tire there to replace. He would have bought a Marathon just to get back on the road with a spare.
Guess what? The Goodyear dealer did not sell Marathon trailer tires! Said not only do they cost more, but they're junk and they don't sell them!

I know of more than a few Goodyear dealers that won't sell marathons.

I have to respect those dealers. I wonder how that conversation went with the Goodyear account manager

Goodyear knows. They must figure Marathon's are profitable enough not to redesign and re-tool.
