smith if you want to find a spot to ski... martin if you want to pull up to chimney rock and "socialize"/people and boat watch (its pretty laid back and won't have to tie to a million drunks)
everybody else has covered everything else that's just my two cents

I'm in Huntsville, and I usually go to the TN river. It's a 15 minute drive to the nearest boat ramp. The water isn't bad on mornings and weekdays. On weekend afternoons it gets crowded and choppy. Smith is really nice. Like others have said: clean, deep water and you can almost always find butter, even on weekends.

Guntersville is only 30-45 mins from Huntsville, beware of the millfoil (sp?). We used to keep our boat there and man that stuff would give me the willies falling and having that stuff all over you, it could really make a mess of your prop too.
We are on Smith now and it, as others have said, is awesome and extremely clean. Second cleanest lake in the US at one point, or so I've heard. |
