USA Water Ski announced on Sunday the selections for two U.S. Water Ski Teams that will participate in respective international events this summer. The selections were based on performances at the 2007 U.S. Elite Water Ski Team Trials, which were held this past weekend at Cory Pickos' World Water Ski & Wakeboard Center in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.
Athletes selected to the 2007 U.S. Pan American Games Water Ski Team were: Regina Jaquess of Suwanee, Ga., Mandy Nightingale of Sapulpa, Okla., Jonathan Travers of Groveland, Fla., and Cory Pickos of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. Selected to the pool of alternates were: Scot Ellis of Auburndale, Fla., Danyelle Bennett of Zachary, La., Russell Gay of Winter Garden, Fla., and Rhoni Barton-Bischoff of Orlando, Fla.
Jaquess, Nightingale, Pickos and Barton-Bischoff were selected to the U.S. Elite Water Ski Team, along with Jimmy Siemers of Round Rock, Texas, and April Coble-Eller of Lillington, N.C. Selected to the pool of alternates were: Bennett, Travers, Ellis, Gay, Joy Todd of Pierson, Fla., and Caroline Hensley of Hixson, Tenn. Siemers opted to try out only for the U.S. Elite Water Ski Team.
Both teams were selected by the American Water Ski Association's International Activities Committee (IAC). The American Water Ski Association is a sport discipline of USA Water Ski. "I believe we have selected two solid teams," said Frank Harrison, chairman of the IAC. "We should be in a good position to bring home some gold medals."
